The name of the island has many interpretations, one of many is that it came from the Caric word "koion", meaning "sheep" because of the widespread rearing of sheep with rich wool.
It is a rich in historical monuments island and presents remarkable archaeological and tourist interest. It is also called the "island of Hippocrates", the father of medicine, because Hippocrates was born here. Today Kos is a modern tourist island with natural beauty, with enchanting beaches and many possibilities in terms of accommodation, food, sports, excursions, entertainment. The most remarkable feature of the island is the endless cycle paths, which is why Kos is often referred to, as the island of the bicycle.
